There is an old Zen Buddhist saying, “Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After Enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”
I have heard and read opinions from the pundits debating it’s meaning, to the point of becoming esoteric.
Sometimes the “dumbed down” version is the best version.
So here is what this Zen phrase means:
Externally nothing changes from before to after enlightenment. What changes is internal. What changes is what you think.
